Can anyone think of a way to do this safely, assuming one did not have a hot plate? Maybe a microwave? SWIM was thinking of using a boiling water bath, but does not want to make his 99% IPA pick up moisture from the boiling water.

Stovetop in glass casserole dish. Assuming you have electric stove Smile

I think it needs to be boiled with heat to make "stuff" more soluble in it.

No electric stove unfortunately, maybe I should get one of those cheap plugin ones from walmart? Or just throw down the extra $ for a hotplate?

^ if you change le pressure you can get a lower boiling point dudo. Easier more ghetto method would to be put it in a plastic bag in throw it in some boiling or near boiling water. The microwave idea is not a good one

Would a glass mercury thermometer work as well, if I bring the temp up really slowly?

the safest way to boil IPA is OUTSIDE with an electric hotplate...still be SUPER careful though..because any spark could cause some sort of fire...also..be very careful because its HOT....but do it outside..away from prying eyes and noses..and do it as fast and carefully as you can...
