Help needed- floating crystals and... goo? Options

Hello, i'm on the second freeze precip of my second extraction and getting unexpected results. My first extraction and the first pull from this one, freeze precip happened as expected with crystal formation on the glass bottom and a tiny amount of floaters. Today I pull out my second precip tray and I see ALL the crystals are floating, it's hard to see but it looks like nothing has adhered to the glass.

I went and got some coffee filters to try that method. First I tried filtering with everything in the freezer to avoid melting crystals, using my pipette to siphon the nps into a filter jar set up next to it. This seems like its not gonna work because 1. naptha fumes and I have some food in the freezer, and 2. condensation on my precip dish is rising rapidly.

So I decided i'll just filter at room temp under ventilation and deal with extracting anything that melts into the filter later.

That's when I pulled the freeze precip dish out and got a real good look and saw this gooey boogery looking web floating on the NPS which i'm hoping isn't something bad. I'm aware of the goo issue (nmt, plant fats etc) but i've never seen a pic of it floating on the nps and looking all webby like this.

So 2 questions: any tips for filtering the spice out of my nps, and what's that gooey floaty thing? Reguar goo and just dry it, or something I don't want in my spice (and what is it?)

Thanks

I have no real idea what your floating blob is.

However, there is a way you can still save your naphtha if you want. It is a bit of work.

- warm the naphtha to at least room temp, so everything dissolves again
- wash it a few times with basified water. Sodium carbonate is a good choice of base for this step. discard the wash water.
- backsalt the dmt from the washed naptha. That is, pull from your naphtha with an acid (acetic, citric, fumaric) several times. Keep the combined acidic pulls, they contain the DMT (in salt form) now!
- defat your acidic solution. So you pull a few times with minimal amounts of naphtha. Because you didn't base yet, it pulls JUST the fats, not the DMT. So still keep your acidic solutionSmile
- now you base the acidic solution, pull with naphtha a few times, and go for freeze precip again.

This should get rid of everything that's not an alkaloid. Possible NMT would probably still remain in the product.

It is easiest to do this if you have a separation funnel. If you don't, you need some combo of a container and a pulling device (pipette, baster, or similar) that works well together.

Thanks, I evap'd everything and it resulted in 100% goo.

If your Spice goo is now still in that dish try to scrape everything apart and prepare a second glass container with boiling Naphtha. The goo will be sticky, but if you dip it inside the hot liquid it will quickly liquify and drop to the bottom. By doing this you can transfer all of the stuff layed out on the dish into the smaller container, which can be heated (and is already heated obviously).

Then just boil it for like ~ 3 minutes and you will see a brown liquid on the bottom. While these brown impurities have separated from the goo, the DMT on the other hand is already migrating into the boiling Naphtha.
Now decant liquid only into a fresh 3rd container. But now pay attention: the brown liquid/goo will still contain a lot of DMT - it just wont separate 100% on the first boil from the other stuff, even though solubility would not interfer with doing so.

Therefore do as many Naphtha boils on that brown goo until it visibly shrunk and/or does not shrink further anymore. Actually then after it cools down, the brown gunk may even solidify.

You will be left with (possibly hard) brown goo in that 2nd container and the Naphtha in the 3rd container.

Just place that back into a freezer (better close it with some kitchen foil and a rubber to prevent fumes spreading in your freezer) and wait 12 h.

Now you should have nice yellow to white Spice Crystals, maybe even repeat if you want just white Crystals.

When i have floaters like that, it's usually because i forgot to evap the nps down to get it super-saturated prior to freezing.
Is that from acacia or mimosa?

It's from 100g mimosa. This tray was the 2nd tray of 150ml (3x 50ml pulls), and I evap'd it at least 50% but it didn't get cloudy. The first 2 pulls of the 3 that went to the first tray were super duper cloudy before evap even, and yielded 1.5g. So I think I mostly got everything in the first 3 pulls and these last 3 were just scraping the bottom of the proverbial barrel.

I scraped it all up and got a little under 0.5g of goo which dried up into a wax. I might just keep it as is, I think I like this stuff for low dose trips. I tried a bit already and if i'm judging right it feels like it has more of a body high and lasts a bit longer.
