I've never drank Ayahuasca before, but I'm going to be getting my hands on some B. Caapi and Chacruna very soon, the problem I have is I work full time (8 hour shifts) and also work most Saturdays and Sundays, so I don't get a lot of time off. I was wondering if anyone here has experience doing Ayahuasca on their own at home during the week with work the next day? Ideally I'd only do it if I had the next day off, but unfortunately I don't have that privilege.
If each brew only lasts 4-5 hours I think I'll be alright, but it's not unheard of for a journey to go on for 14 hours though, which would present a problem.
Anyone who does do this, is there anything I should take into consideration apart from the obvious don't drink too much?
EDIT: I forgot to add, searching the site shows that a lot of people report feeling great the next day, which is obviously good, but what about ease of getting to sleep after the journey finishes?

The duration depends a lot on the amount of harmala alkaloids ingested. With a starters dose of around 50 grams of caapi, you won't be tripping for more than 4 to 5 hours.
Probably a little less even.
Ayahuasca does not interfere as much with your sleep as most hallucinogens like LSD or shrooms do.
Assuming that you plan to do it during the day, i would definately recommend to do it in the dark though. As much darkness as possible.
It is definately possible to go to work the next day. With a normal of around 50 gr.
But it is good to realise that it isn't ideal. You can be a little wobbly, tired, or distracted the next day.
Having said that, it usually is a very rewarding experience without any discomfort the day after.
Good luck.

Ayahuasca gives me heavy insomnia. If you do it during the day on your day off you should be ok, but start early. I've had a glass consumed at 6pm keep me up until 6am.
I'm not sure about the artificial darkness though. Natural darkness at night is good, as is natural daylight at daytime in a natural setting (e.g. forest) out of direct sun.

This is interesting to see.. From my experience I had put a night cap on so as to put me into darkness (Based on the advice of my guide, to help facilitate inner thought). And afterwards I kind of felt like I had struggles with remembering exactly what had just happened at the moment. It took me about 3-4 weeks of really being mindful to myself and the experience to integrate it all into my every day waking part of life, could this be part of the reason why? Apologies for hijacking your thread.. just curious Hope you're able to figure it out and safe travels when you do!

Thanks for the responses. I figured the more B. Caapi the longer the trip, I'll be sure to not exceed 50g of it per sitting, unless and until I gain experience with it and have the next day off.

It happened to me to have a lot of serious things to do, the day after a ceremonie, and I was always fascinated by the energy you get from a session - with sometimes only two hours sleep, I was able to work, drive people to the aeroport or take 10 hours car journeys, with a big smile and a lot of ease. But this is just a personal experience and everyone will react differently, so I hope it will do it for you! Arthur Dee was one of the greatest alchemists of all time, not likely to his dad, I forgot his name, this small James Bond sorcerer working for the queen of a... Hail Arthur!

I also get very little sleep after ayahuasca, but then again often do a couple cups and quite deep. I always leave at least the day after free. I would not, unless I could work from home. But everyone is different. Btw, 50g caapi can be on the low side but good starting point. When I drink at home I usually use rue, around 3g 15 min boil. External Anarchy & Internal Monarchy

Yes, you can go a little higher than 50 grams. Like 55, just to be sure it will work. 55 will not add much time. A few minutes at most.
For a fourteen hour experience, you would need amounts way over 100 grams. Maybe even 200.
I took 90 once, and had a little less than a six hours experience.

For me using Syrian Rue or Rue/Harmala extract, depending on dosage, the Harmala effects last anywhere from 6 to 8 to 10 hours, but the DMT will only last about 4 to 5 hours at most.
