Looking for Legitimate Food Grade D-Limonene Options

I'm trying to find Food Grade D-Limonene to use as a solvent for a tek. However the ones I have found seem very sketchy and I'm trying to find a safe brand. I've learned Food grade doesn't mean its safe for human consumption! Here's what I have found.

1. Blubonic Industries 100% Orange Oil d-Limonene HIGH PURITY Food Grade
https://www.amazon.com/B...easer/dp/B009SSGW48?th=1

This product has changed company names a few times, you can see in one review it was called "greatfulbuys". It is also currently being sold under the brand "trinity Nutralab" https://www.amazon.com/T...ds=food+grade+d-limonene

When I googled this ripoff report came up for this company. https://www.ripoffreport...-blubonic-indust-1439804

This item was suggested before on this forum here. https://www.dmt-nexus.me...&m=827248#post827248 they emailed the seller for the MSDS and they provided an upload in post #5. here's the direct download link. https://www.dmt-nexus.me...um/resource.ashx?a=33199 It's cas number is 138-86-3 which through a search comes back as Limonene https://chem.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/rn/138-86-3 , not D-Limonene which is cas number 5989-27-5 http://www.caslab.com/d-Limonene_CAS_5989-27-5/

It looks like they are just repackaging this and passing it off as food grade d-limonene when it probably isnt.

2. D-Limonene 100% FOOD GRADE HIGH PURITY Orange Oil Citrus Solvent https://www.amazon.com/D...ds=food+grade+d-limonene

This can also be found on ebay in a 32oz size. https://www.ebay.com/p/B...=131548158475&chn=ps
Its the cheapest "food grade D-limonene" I've found. However it seems sketchy and the 100% may mean 100% food grade, not 100% D-Limonene. As one reviewer on amazon stated. And they don't provide much information or a MSDS on their website. https://flalab.com/product/limonene-orange-oil/

It looks like they are just repackaging this and passing it off as food grade d-limonene when it probably isnt like the previous product.

3. Best Value Vacs Ultra High Purity D-Limonene
https://www.bestvaluevac...PTWejfQ_bT4aAjpCEALw_wcB

The description and bottle says USP and food grade. But the Safety Data Sheet says "recommended use: Industrial use only" The cas number is 94266-47-4 comes back as citrus ext. https://chem.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/rn/94266-47-4

4. EZClean.com Orange D'Limonene Food Grade 1 Gallon http://www.ezclean.com/h...g-food-htm-p/1g-food.htm The MSDS is provided on their webpage. Food grade is a minimum 95% d-limonene. The cas number is 68647-72-3 which comes back as "Terpenes and Terpenoids, sweet orange-oil" https://chem.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/rn/68647-72-3

5. EZClean.com Orange D'Limonene High Purity 1 Gallon http://www.ezclean.com/h...-p-1g-hp-htm-p/1g-hp.htm The MSDS is provided on their webpage. High purity is typically 98.5% d-limonene. The cas number is 68647-72-3 which comes back as "Terpenes and Terpenoids, sweet orange-oil" https://chem.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/rn/68647-72-3

Though this item doesn't say food grade, since the purity is higher than their food grade, would this be a higher purity food grade?

6. True Terpenes Limonene https://buy-terpenes.com...ts/tt/isolates/limonene/
This seems to be the safest and most legitimate. The Safety Data sheet https://buy-terpenes.com...ne_SDS_True_Terpenes.pdf
Lists it as D-Limonene and the cas number is 5989-27-5 which is correct for D-Limonene. But this product is by far the most expensive $120 for 32oz and $413 for a gallon!!

7. KleanTerpenes Limonene 95% https://www.kleanterpene...e-95?variant=33476116680 At $75 for 32oz its expensive but it seems safer than others besides the true terpene since its intended to be used in vape pens, e-cigs. Its $150 for a gallon in HDPE (High-density polyethylene) bottle I guess, or $160 for a gallon, in glass it looks like. Their MSDS https://cdn.shopify.com/...pdf?16345693013057196474
has the cas number as 5989-27-5 which is D-Limonene or 68647-72-3 which is Terpenes and Terpenoids, sweet orange-oil https://chem.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/rn/68647-72-3

"Source: Domestic Expressed Florida Orange (Citrus Sinensis) Oil Assay % Limonene: Minimum 95% Limonene Other Naturally Occurring Constituents: α-Pinene, β-Pinene, Myrcene, Octanal, Linalool, δ-3-Carene, Decanal Density / Specific Gravity 25 ºC: 0.8960 – 0.9080 g/cm3 Optical Rotation 25 ºC: -101.4º to -104.50º Refractive Index 20 ºC: 1.471 – 1.474Additional Information"

8. Citrus Depot offers a food grade D-limonene solvent but their website page to it isnt working and in their faq section they say this. https://citrusdepot.net/faq/
"Q: Since your product is a food grade material does that mean I can add it to food or drinks?
A: NO. DO NOT DRINK OR INGEST. Food Grade designation simply means that the product meets minimum standards of quality and purity as defined by the US FDA. We do not offer the product for any food or pharmaceutical use."
And on this page https://citrusdepot.net/applications/ they say this
"NO FOOD GRADE PRODUCT OFFERED BY CITRUS DEPOT IS TO BE USED AS AN INGREDIENT IN ANY FOOD, COCKTAIL, OR BEVERAGE. DO NOT USE DIRECTLY ON SKIN FOR PROLONGED PERIOD. PLEASE SEE “FAQ” SECTION OF THIS WEBSITE FOR MORE INFORMATION."

9. Florida chemical offers Food grade d-limonene, EPA registered grade d-limonene, high purity d-limonene, ultra high purity d-limonene. http://floridachemical.c...nd-other-citrus-terpenes
But they don't off their products for sale on their website, I would have to try to contact them and see if I can purchase them directly, or find a distributor. I found their MSDS on their food grade d-limonene http://floridachemical.c...rade_d-Limonene_MSDS.pdf
The cas number is 8028-48-6 which comes back as Bitter orange flower extract https://chem.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/rn/8028-48-6
so idk, maybe the higher purity d-limonene from them would have the 5989-27-5 cas number for d-limonene

10. Eco-House #915 Natural Orange Terpene Solvent. http://www.eco-house.com...-orange-terpene-solvent/ Is something I've also found. It says its food grade. This appears to be the MSDS for the product but I found it from another vendor. http://www.dick-blick.co...ds/DBH_SDS_01580XXXX.pdf

cas numbers are 68917-57-7 which after a search is Terpenes and Terpenoids, mixed sour and sweet orange-oil, https://chem.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/rn/68917-57-7
and it also lists cas number 8028-48-6, Bitter orange flower extract https://chem.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/rn/8028-48-6

11. Odie's safer solvent https://www.odiesoil.com...ies-safer-solvent-32-oz/ heres the msds https://www.odiesoil.com...;s%20Safer%20Solvent.pdf
cas is 8028-48-6, which is Bitter orange flower extract https://chem.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/rn/8028-48-6
It does say highest purity and food grade on the container.

12. Heritage Pure Citrus Solvent, http://www.heritagenatur...searchresults.asp?cat=71
"Food grade; the purest form of citrus turpenes (solvent), extracted from cold-pressed orange peel oil." So they say, I need to email them for an msds.

Basically I'm so confused, the whole purpose of using D-Limonene is to have a non-toxic safe solvent so if any solvent remains in the final product it will be still ok to consume. I'd obviously like to spend the least amount for food grade D-Limonene, Im thinking it might be smart to just spend the extra money and choose either Klean Terpenes or True Terpenes since they are meant for vaping, and their cas numbers include 5989-27-5 which is actually D-Limonene. Or maybe Eco-House #915 is good enough? Can anyone provide any feedback or offer any other products I haven't listed that they have used or found that is food grade d-limonene and is safe to consume, and can hopefully the company seems legitimate and has a msds on the product.

I went with Blubonic Industries 100% Orange Oil d-limonene. A couple people on the nexus recommend them.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm going to order a gallon of that d-limonene. Its good to know it works successfully for people on here. I did more searching through the replies from the seller, he does order a 55gal drum of d-limonene and repackages it. When you click the 1 gallon version of the product different questions come up, and there is a question asking for the MSDS. The seller replied with this. "For an online link here is the top google result for high purity d-Limonene MSDS: http://www.floridachemic...imonene%20MSDS.pdf"

The link didn't work, but its clear what the link should have been and I found a working link.
http://floridachemical.c...urity_dLimonene_MSDS.pdf

I feel more comfortable if its Florida Chemical Company at the high purity level, and I just have to trust the seller is being honest here.

However if anyone else has any other suggestions or points they would like to add it would be great to narrow down the options.

I've always used the one from Blubonic Industries with excellent results. In the thread you linked in point number one, we looked at the MSDS and discovered that it is actually DL-limonene.

Further down, Downwardsfromzero mentions that d-limonene or DL-limonene is what we want and should be superior. I've done many mescaline and DMT projects with this and can vouch for the quality. I haven't bought any in a while since I try to wash and reuse it as much as I can, so unless something has changed recently, it is a reliable solvent.

Yeah I purchased a gallon myself. It's going to be a risk no matter who you buy it off of.

Visionary, any update on the products? Finding good and reliable d-limonene has become a challenge.

Purchased from Blubonic a few years ago and it was great. But a year passed and moved to a different state, and the next two products failed (2017 & 2018 ). My guesses for this are: (1) the product is now treated with the antioxidant butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) https://en.wikipedia.org...utylated_hydroxytoluene, (2) the products oxidized to carvone, or (3) some chemical was added to lower VOC content. I've seen butylated hydroxytoluene is added to 55 gal drums to reduce oxidation to carvone. https://pdfs.semanticsch...e195ffada01200d3c0a6.pdf

Used this and it was good: https://www.amazon.com/D...9&s=gateway&th=1 But only the 22.5 oz. The 32 oz product has ruined two projects, similar to Blubonic. It's less aromatic, and becomes cloudy. The label is different too. The 22.5 oz bottles says "Biodegradable & Non Toxic." The 32 oz bottles does not. The distributor claims this discrepancy is irrelevant, they're only different because "the lawyers made us change the label." The SDS says "BHT, an antioxidant, can be added to prevent oxidation." So my guess is either BHT is added or something else has been added to lower the VOC content, because it's less aromatic. Any thoughts on this?

The BVV d-limonene is the highest purity limonene observed to date. Still unconfirmed if it's actually food safe except for the fact that the bottle says "D-LIMONENE FOOD GRADE" on it.

3. Best Value Vacs Ultra High Purity D-Limonene
https://www.bestvaluevac...TWejfQ_bT4aAjpCEALw_wcB

The description and bottle says USP and food grade. But the Safety Data Sheet says "recommended use: Industrial use only" The cas number is 94266-47-4 comes back as citrus ext. https://chem.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/rn/94266-47-4

I have used limonene for cactus before; never spice.

Does anyone mind pointing me to a good limonene tek thread? I suppose I can always do a search.

Does freeze precip work the same with limonene as it does naptha?

No it does not. Some kind of acid is required to separate the alkaloid from limonene.

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."
