hello everyone i am in the middle of making some changa.

he is my dilema

I used vinegar and water and 3 x boil of syrian rue seeds strained separated and boiled down.

the resulting mess left is red gooey extract.

this red gooey extract is or does not seem to be soluble in acetone.

if anyone could point me in the direction to clean up this gooey mess i would be grateful.

From where did you get the idea harmalas would be soluble in acetone?

What was your initial plan, what were you intending to do?

If I were you and wanted harmalas I'd redissolve in warm water, filter to remove inactive impurities (wash the filter couple of times to get any harmalas stuck there), then I'd add a base to precipitate harmalas and continue purifying them as much as needed according to any of the harmala teks in the wiki.

Your alkaloids are in salt form, that's probably why they won't dissolve in acetone. I'm guessing you can't smoke them either, you need the freebase.

I would re-dissolve the goo (in hot water, probably) and do a couple of basifying- and Manske steps.

I'm sure more knowledgeable members will chime in with helpful advice.

May I ask how much goo you got, and how much Syrian Rue you started out with?

100g Syrian rue seeds, about 7 g red goo

You will lose some of your yield but with 7g I guess it will still be worth your while.

Rue extractions are a drag with all the filtering and everything, but if I were you I'd still look into them. The instant freebase precipitation is nice to watch, and also the crystals that form after the Manske step are quite spectacular.
Plus I think your yield can be higher than 7%.

5% is a good yield for reasonably purified harmala alkaloids.

5% is a realistic yield, I stand corrected. I thought the alkaloid content was higher- but I was thinking of Cebil seeds with their reported 12.4% alkaloid content (sometimes there's so much info on this site, it gets blurry and mixed up ).

Even that cebil seed yield is not common at all IMO. For rue once i get the harmalas properly purified (meaning several re-precipitations), I more likely get from 1-5%, usually around 3%. But you never know what your batch will yield. Also depends how thoroughly cleaned you want it, since re-precipitating several times will clean up impurities but also result in some of loss.

Also the ratios of harmine to harmaline vary quite a lot on the batch, which will influence dosage/effects.
