I don't think I would enjoy email updates, but some sort of notification that a thread you've participated in has a new response would be nice. But even if it was just for direct responses (being quoted) would be prefarable.
Either that, or I just need to get used to this forum some more.

At the top of this thread, in the same line as the thread title, see the little button that says "options"? Click it, then select "watch this topic". You can also watch entire subforums if you want. There's no option to auto-watch threads you post in though.
