Hey all,

After doing some research about smoking techniques I decided that it's time for change,
so off to the headshop in order to look for the pieces to build a Glass Buddah aka a cheap Vaporgenie.
What I found and finally ended up with, I thought is worth to share:

Basically it is a standard chillum for any kind of Bong (14 mm), bended by your
local, friendly headshop owner according to your prefered shape.
An inserted ceramic disc or several stainless steel filters to put your spice on, as with similiar devices.
Now what thrilled me and I have never seen before (thank you headshop guy): the pierced
ceramic insulator (Edit: learned today it is called ceramic oil nail) to put on top (fits Ø 14 mm and Ø 18 mm).

Works incredibly well! After loading the pipe, you just heat the insulator from all sides
with your torch lighter, then you start inhaling while moving your lighter to the top,
so that the flame is close (covering) to the entry hole. Entering and passing through the insulator,
air gets heated and immediate vaporization starts. No worries about holding your lighter too close or too far,
very very smooth vapor (almost tasty), never too hot at all and highly effective!
Breakthrough on first time use (small dose < 20 mg)!

And last but not least: all together (actually just two pieces ) less than 20€ (25$)!
Insulator is the most expensive part (12 € or sth.) and "normally" used by people to smoke hash or other volatile oils,
in case you want to describe it to your local vendor.

@anrchy: you can find it here (US-Store) or here. Searching for a shop I learned myself now, that it is called "ceramic oil nail" and as I mentioned earlier standard use is for smoking volatile oils.

@332211: definitly easy to clean, even more if you have one of those thin brushes used in labratories to clean glassware.

he said the guy from the headshop told him what it was, so my guess is that it's used just as our OP intends to use it -- as a heat diffuser / decreaser for convection vaporization with lighters.


genius build. wish i would have seen it before i bought my GVG. the alternative GVG green buddha that we all know about still costs 60$+ to craft at which point the value difference is negligible and so i just went for the gvg.

this on the other hand - extremely affordable, assuming this does the job as it should.

I meant specifically, i understand its used for oils but in what way is what i meant. I'll do some reading.

It seems a lot of people are complaining about the ceramic nails cracking, i wonder if this will be different for dmt or if the same amount of heat will be needed. Does that mean the quartz or Ti nails work as well? I dont know much about dabbing utensils.

Thanks Irrlicht , yeah I've found them but most without the dome so just how important is the dome part as I've never seen a vape bowl that you can customize up close that is !!!

You don't need a dome because the nail serves only to heat the air that passes through while inhaling.
People consuming oils drop their material directly onto the nail and inhale the vapor through the perforated nail, this is why some put a dome on top of the nail in order to catch all the vapor.
Now the vaporizing of DMT happens inside the pipe just like using the original GVG or GlassBuddah - only difference, as mentioned, is the way to generate the hot air.

Looks nice.. but what prevents hot dmt or ash from getting into your mouth?
I see no trap in the glass/? ..

As I wrote above you. put your spice on a small ceramic disc or stainless steel filters (the ones you use in a bong) inside the little bowl of the pipe. Have a look and the GlassBuddah or GVG to better understand.
You are right in the photos you don't quite seem the disc because of light refraction due to the glass structure

Awesome. I wonder how well it would work if you heated it up hardcore, then inhale without adding more heat. If it were hot enough it might work.

Very inspiring post! If this works I belive this would be one of the cheapest GVG-alike. Though I have a question. Do you think these items in the attached picture would work for the two piece glassgenie, and is the method that i wrote right?

yes, I'm certain that this works. Your method also sounds fine just keep in mind that after preheating the ceramic nail when you start inhaling, move the flame of your torch light close to the entry hole so that the airstream gets heated additionally. If you just preheat the ceramic nail, the heat may not be sufficient to vaporize all you material.

Thanks for your input, I'll try what you said when i get the ceramic nail. How many seconds should i heat the ceramic before going to the top? And how much would you recommend for someone who is new to DMT using this tool?
