I am not sure of alkaloid content but I have read subjective experiences differ from the average cubensis. I think the nickname "big laughing gyms" gives it away.

Funny how this happened. Recently got back into mushrooms; and wanted to start seeing what grew around me. Been meaning to try to go find gyms, but never had thought much of it.

Went out today, hiked off trail through this big area of wet, downed deciduous trees, lots of leaf litter and rotting logs. Was walking along and spotted this decent sized cluster. I remember seeing pictures of gymnopilus junonius.

Two different groups have ID'd them today, they're indeed gym junonius.

Took a spore print today. About 3/4 circle of spores, didn't set fully. Happy to have them nonetheless.
