I think it depends on objective, if i want a strong full on breakthrough i will typically hold as long as possible. Sometimes i just want to dip my toes into hyperspace so I wont take as big of hits or hold them in as long.

Well sense freebase dmt allows you to build a tolerance in such a short time. We do three tokes, hold in each for exactly 10 seconds and the last one you usually dont remember so it seems like a good method. The Unknown = A Place to Learn

15 seconds usually seems to be rather adequate. When I release, and see no vapor, it's a good sign I've held it in long enough. I have quite the lung capacity and can hold it in for extremely long if I wanted to, but it seems more beneficial to try and keep the hits close together before the experience really starts to get too far underway. In most cases I hold it in until there is nothing to exhale. If I need to check I let out a small amount of breath, if anything comes out, take it back down again. How long this is I’m not sure.

I chose 'as long as I possibly can' which for me actually translates to, 'until the intensity causes me to chicken out or I'm already in and have no idea if I'm even breathing or not'. The few times I tried fb instead of changa I was gone halfway through forever before I exhaled.  I'm pretty sure half of forever is still forever, so I'm not sure just how long it was in earth time. Images of broken light,

I don't use FB anymore. I haven't in a few years now. When I used FB it was a coin toss as to weather or not I would even remember the exhale because I would launch so far so fast. With Changa I always remember. I feel the harmalas before I exhale, I feel the DMT in about 2-3 seconds after exhale. IH Ice House is an alter ego. Usually around 20 seconds or so. Ideally when no smoke can be seen while exhaling. I have a big lung capacity and can hold my breathe for well over a minute, maybe two. So sometimes I'll be a few hits into an experience, forget that i'm holding my breathe, and go around 50 seconds before exhaling.
