Hey, so that last brew I did I used 7.5 litres of Volvic water (not fond of the taste of my tap water), I used 1.5 tablespoons of vinegar per 1.5 litre bottle. I have had a very small brew with no vinegar and quite liked the taste, with the vinegar brew I had it wasn't making me gag but it didn't taste fantastic.

Do you think the amount of vinegar I used was too much or about right? If I could lessen the amount I put into the drink with the same or better result I'd take it.

You don't have to add any acid at all, the plant is already acidic so the alkaloids will be soluble in water. Just brew it as it is, much better tasting than adding acid.

After doing the (for example) 3x3h boils, then you could leave it soaking in acidic water for a day or so, maybe pressure-cook it or blend it or even freeze and thaw it once, and then extract from that whatever extra harmala alkaloids might still be there. And since you'd be extracting this last part, it wouldn't matter if there was any vinegar because you wont taste it when you separate the alkaloids anyways, and you don't have to worry about not using acid before on your drinking brew because even if for some reason you dont get 100% alkaloids, you'll recover whatever is left in this last step.
