I attempted my first extraction today. But whenever I get excited over a new project I get over eager and forget about some important detail. I dont have a turkey baster or separating funnel so now i just have a jar full dark sludge/naptha. I'll be getting a glass turkey baster either tomorrow or the next day. Will it be ok to let my spice sit till then?

Should be fine. Good luck. Just don't be like me and procrastinate for months before you extract the spice. However, since you are so excited about this project already I don't think you have anything to worry about.

It should just pull more the longer you let it sit. Might pull undesirables, but that can be cleaned up later.

Always use a "mise en place" type of thinking when extracting Something that should be natural to the kitchen environment as well, I suppose

Time is your friend in this case. The longer you let sit your mix (I guess NaOH/Water/Bark + Naptha), the more the base will crack open your bark powder and release the alkaloids. I actually collect my sludges from previous extractions in a big pot over weeks, and do one pull of that and combine it whenever I do a new extraction. There's always a bit left.

Hopefully I wont have much other material in the solution. would it be safe to use an old spore syringe to pull the naptha? or should I only stick to glass and stainless steel?

In general it is recommended not to use plastic equipment. However, because you use it only for pulling, the naptha will not have much time for dissolving some of the toxic softeners in the plastic. And because they are syringes (medical equipment) they are very likely free of that stuff anyway.
Don't worry about other components that might have made it into your naptha layer. You might not get super clean crystals, but even some waxy, slight yellowish resin is nice to smoke and works. It actually tastes nice too.
