Hi everyone, I've read a great many posts on this forum, but never posted before. I've been experimenting with Caapi+MHRB brews for a few months now, with interesting results
Problems with purging too early and brewing issues have led me to attempt extractions of harmalas and dmt. I am attempting to perform the Tao of Rue Extraction tek, and have performed three pulls from 500g rue seeds(grinded) in vinegar/water boils.
I filtered the brew several times through cotton balls and coffee filters, reduced, and filtered again. Thinking the tea was pure enough, I added a lye solution to a sample of my tea, to make sure it was filtered enough. The tea turned white as I added the base and stirred, but no matter how much lye I added it never turned completely white or "milky", and is now a somewhat dark tan; it is definitely lighter than before adding the lye, but it does not look like the pictures in the tek.
I filtered it extensively, and the tea used passed easily through two layers of coffee filters. My fear is that the filters themselves were not fine enough, and there was too much impurities allowed through.
Does anyone have any advice on this problem? I checked the jar after about twenty minutes and there was a dark substance collecting at the bottom, and a "curdled" look about the brew. Is this normal, or do I need to filter the rest of my brew further?
Okay, new issue: I think I may have added too much lye, as the brew is now VERY thick. Should I transfer to a larger container and dilute?
Crisis maybe averted, I took maybe 1/8 of the lye/rue solution and transferred to another jar which I then filled with water. Flakes of what may be harmalas are dropping like crazy
