A/B Extraction attempt on Acacia Sophorae Options

Hi all,

First of all, alot of fantastic info here so I decided I would join in to contribute. First post here of what will be many more.

SWIM attempted an A/B extraction on an Acacia Sophorae. There is alot of this species where SWIM lives, literally lining kilometres of coastline. The DMT Handbook methodology was followed in general.

The process was performed on roughly 1/3 of bark peeled off fallen brances and 2/3 of fresh phyllodes. The plant material was cut into small pieces with scissors as a coffee grinder was not available. Although SWIM did not weigh the material, it was easily over 1kg.

- 4 acid cooks with drops of HCL acid added to water to between pH of 3.5 - 4.0.
The first cook was a very dark brown, and the following cooks were lighter and lighter until the final cook was a faint brown, almost like a tea.
- Combined the 3 acid cooks and reduced down to 2L of liquid.
- Added Caustic Soda (NaOH) to water and added to the reduced acid cooks. The mixture was very dark, almost black.
- pH was monitored and caustic soda was added until a pH of over 12 was achieved.
- The mixture was shaken well, however there was never any signs of any reaction, no bubbling or spitting as the caustic soda was added, and no pressure build up in the container.
- While the mixture was still very warm from the acid cook, Shellite (Naptha) was added. 300ml was used for the first pull.
- The container was capped and shaken well, and upon opening the cap there was a small release of built up gas.
- SWIM waited a couple of minutes until the shellite layer had clearly formed on top and proceeded to shake again. This process was done a few times.
- The liquid was then incrementally poured into a smaller container and the top shellite layer was extracted using a small syringe and put into a seperate container to be freeze precipitated. The shellite that was extracted was pure clear with no colouration at all, but it did have an odd plant-like smell.
- Another 500ml in total was added to the black liquid and extracted using the syringe.
- The final extracted shellite was put into the freezer, and after 24 hours a few small crystalline grains have formed. Though very very small amounts.

SWIM has a few questions that hopefully some of you can answer:
- Was there anything wrong with the process that was carried out?
- Is it normal for the shellite to be extracted looking exactly the same as it was added? Absolutely no colour difference.
- Is Acacia Sophorae simply a poor source for DMT? Papers have mentioned that this particular species does contain Tryptamines though requires further research.
Confused Doesn't seem to have worked. Though SWIM will wait a few days and see if anything happens.

Along with the Sophorae species, there is Maidenii species also in the area. SWIM has read accounts from other people saying that this species isn't what its hyped it to be, is this the case? Otherwise SWIM will have to try and find some Obtusifolia which appears to be successful for all.

Sophorae is not known to consistently contain tryptamines... some strains at some time of the year might contain DMT - but this species has still not been "cracked"

If you got some crystals well, that is a good sign - have you tried weighing them and smoking them?

Shellite in Australia (diggers normally) seems to have gotten crapped over the years. Xylene and Toluene are sometimes found in Hardware stores and are more reliable solvents. (although they melt plastic, stink to high heaven and the result comes out gooey and takes ages to dry!)

Otherwies, your process looks sound, if the result is a very pure DMT source, then it comes as totally clear, especially with Shellite.

You would be lucky to get much out of Maidenii, maybe 0.1-2% if you get a good strain. It is common also to get nothing from this tree. You are likely best to go chasing Obtusifolias!
