BLAB Tek help: Xylene a bad Idea? Options

Not too sure why this went wrong here...Would really appreciate any help Big grin

I followed the BLAB tek exactly, albeit with one exception - I used xylene to pull from the mimosa stb soup instead of d-limonene. Now I've encountered a problem at step four, where one adds fumaric acid saturated isopropyl alcohol (FASI) to the collection jar of solvent pulls. In this case, I had gradually added FASI to the jar of xylene pulls. The problem is: there was/is no precipation. Instead, two distinct layers have formed in the jar - a cloudy light/whiteish yellow layer on top; and a clearer, darker orange layer on the bottom (smaller).

I'm guessing the reason for this is that FASI isn't compatible with xylene...Could anyone explain why this went wrong? And, more importantly, What should do I to rectify the situation?

Thank you to all

When using xylene I always added FASAcetone. I'm not sure if IPA would be the problem though.
