Maxx, I too have had the same problem, and with a history of creative chemistry I am too paranoid to do the on-line thing. However, I have seen teks that use vinegar and CaOH (calcium hydroxide) which can both be gotten at the grocery store without raising any eyebrows. Personally I have done this tek up to the point doing a pull but have had a similar problem procuring decent solvent. What I have at this point looks and smells right but it had a large emulsion layer that took a couple of days to separate.

OH, and "no", the chems,if used properly, whether CaOH, Naoh, or HCl will not adulterate your product. They all break down into benign salts and water. Justkeep 'em out of your eyes. Use a splash shield with the strong stuff.
One final idea...I noticed at the site that carried, they mentioned that it was used in "pretzel making". Might look for a bakery?
