suppose you come across a jar that has been sitting for a month with mhrb powder, water, lye and naptha in it. There is probably too much of everything in there, and there is no seperation. Kind of a failed experiment if you will.

Supposing you don't have any money for naptha, but you do happen to have some lye, what could you do to salvage the situation?

thanks,
D

What are the ratios of the mix? How much water?

phew, thanks for the reply.

Kind of a strange situation, but I didn't start the extraction, so I don't know. Just have a jar with mhrb, water, lye and naptha. I always thought it was really bad to have naptha with the lye while it was breaking down...but this has been sitting like that for a monthSad Not sure what to do.

Well, the solvent (Naptha) isn't soluble in the MHRB/NaOH soup. So if you know for a fact there was solvent poured into the jar it sounds like a really bad emulsion.

To start with, I would add 20-25g of salt and stir that into the mix. Let it sit for a moment and see if you get any separation.

Just an excuse to try again.

No worries, that's why you extract in small amounts at a time so when things nose dive you are not heartbroken pouring 2 lbs of MHRB down your roommates toilet.

I messed up a few when I first started but that's how ya learn.

You could add lye. After sitting for so long the solution may not be as basic as it was intended to be. I would add slowly, and mix well. Then wait a few hours to see if there is separation.

Yeah! Do you know for sure that there is naphtha in there already? If you KNOW FOR A FACT that there is naphtha in there but there is no seperation then I would add some lye and see if the naphtha seperates out of it. Once it seperates then mix/let seperate a few times and then pull the naphtha and either freezer precipitate or simply evaporate the naphtha under a fan to leave resulting dmt in the dish.

Also, Naphtha is only like $8 for quite a large can and it can be reused for many extractions. You can't come up with $8?
