I did an stb using toluol as the initial solvent. Evapped the solvent to goo, then recrystalized in naphtha. Seperated most of the goo from the naphtha, then put naphtha in the freezer.

In the morn there was some crystals but some of the goo got into the mix. There was about 2.8g of stuff altogeather, the goo melted at room temp and the crystals disolved into the goo for the most part.

I set that stuff aside and finished up the second stuff which was basicly the 3rd pull. After evaporating the toloul, there was a yellow goo that I pourd the naphtha over and swished around to pull the dmt out of the goo.

I also added the stuff from the 1st batch to that, ran the whole thing through a filter to seperate the goo. The naphtha looked clean, no insoluble goo visable in it so I froze it overnight.

This morning there was yellow crystals, very few comparatively.

The main difference is that last night the crystalization jar had alot more naphtha in it, but should also have had more alkaloid in it too.

I know that if you use too much naphtha, things wont crystalize, so what I did this morning was reduce the volume of what was left after filtering out the orangish crystals, then added the crystals back into the solution, disolved it and stuck it back in the freezer.

My question is. Is it best to use as little naphtha as possable, or do you need some "room" for things to happen?

I reduced the volume by about 70%. should that help yeild more crystals?

I would think that there should be about 3.5g in there, it is in a widemouth halfpint mason jar with about a half inch of naphtha (1/4 to a 3rd of a cup maybe?)if that helps for a visual aide. If there were 3.5g in that amount ov solvent, and the freezer is cold enough should that crystalize or will I need to add mor solvent?

Thanks.

Yes, generally the less solvent you use for recrystallizing the better.

Swim starts with a small amount of naptha, freezes, collects spice, then evaporate to a very small volume, freeze, and collect crystals again. If you want to collect everything you can get the remaining nasties by evaping the remaining solvent.

Nasties?

Maybe not nasty at all:
