Hi all,

I first want to speak a big thank you to this whole community, for maintaining the information and for all the kind sentiments floating around here. I've made only a few posts but I have been reading the Nexus almost daily for what... like a year now? <3 you guys, cheers.

Today I want to share both my first extraction and first smoking experience. It's not much to speak of, but I'm overall really happy with what I consider to be a test & learning run.

My situation is far less than ideal, but after thorough consideration I deemed an extraction to be plausible. I chose the q21q21 tek (first method with limonene), mainly because it seemed to be the path of least resistance for me and I like that it's all food-safe materials used. My yield was quite low, from 40g MHRB I ended up with a tiny amount of brown goo. After re-reading the tek with a fine tooth comb, I think my mistake might have been the vinegar I used. It calls for white vinegar and I realized that I had malt vinegar. Does this sound like the culprit? All my other materials are unquestionable.

But regardless I got enough for a good first taste. Obviously a breakthrough is not what I wanted to shoot for my first time anyway. I built basically a bong, it looks almost identical to the bubbler pictured in the smoaking link in the tek, the one with the glass jar and copper elbow. So about 2 nights ago I went out to a nice field and leaning against a picnic table, I lit up. My obtained results can only be classified as "definitely noticeable". Not psychadelic in any way, shape, or form (except I did see a very odd shooting star, presumably an actual object in the atmosphere.) Just mild woozyness and strange gravity for a few minutes. I gave it another try a half hour later and got the same results.

So I got a feel for the process and learned a few things to do differently, and soon my situational inadequacies are going to be rectified. Within the next few weeks I plan on doing everything again, and this time I plan on getting results. No more trial run. Again, thanks, I could not be doing this if this community were not in place. I don't have to tell you what this potentially means for me.

tl;dnr version:

I had a low yield from performing the q21q21 tek, and later realized that the vinegar I had was malt vinegar instead of white vinegar. Could this be what caused it?

Welcome to the nexus!

I don't think malt vinegar is ideal, but I doubt it would reduce your yield. It's just in there for acidification. I would think, at most it might just dirty up the product a little, but I even doubt that.

hmm ok. That's the only thing I used that wasn't exactly what was called for by the tek. I'll just reapproach it with a fresh mind and give it another go.

Thanks I really appreciate it.
