Hi
I am now in the process of my first preparation of cacti resin.
My steps:
- Cutting 777g of fresh cacti in little chunks
- Freeze -> Thaw x 2
- Simmered cacti in 3l Water + 3/4 Juice of 1 small Lemon @ 75-85°C for 4 hours
- Filtered through a T-Shirt into the 2nd Pot
- 2nd pot was put also on the stove for reducing @ 75-85°C
- Refilled the pot with the cacti with 2l water + 1/2 Juice of 1 small Lemon and simmered again for 4 hours @ 75-85°C
- Filtered through a T-Shirt, did a quick decant and poured it in the 2nd Pot
- Let the 2nd Pot reduce for another 4 hours
- Filtered again through a t-shirt to put it in big honey jar to let sit over night in the fridge
- after 14 hours in the fridge, the liquid was again decanted and filled into a pot to reduce further
- 4 hours later filtered again through a T-Shirt into a honey jar and placed it in the fridge overnight.
Today i took a look at the jar, to see if any remaining sediments have gathered at the bottom.
Now I am a bit confused, because there is a really thick white layer at the bottom. This doesn't look like the sediments I saw before.
My next step would be decanting (leaving the white behind) and let it reduce completely in a ceramic dish.
My Question : What does this white layer contain?
Here are pictures of the jar
