Hello everyone, I just got everything i need to do my first time extraction, just waiting on my kilo of bark. I like the idea of the ammonia wash, but does it add any chemicals to the product? I want as clean of a product as possible, but the carbonate wash doesn't interest me.. so, will doing an ammonia wash really help? or am i better off just smoking how it is when it dries? The ammonia just seems dangerous, i wouldn't want to inhale any vapors of left over traces of ammonia..

also I will be doing a freeze precipitation.

The ammonia wash is an out dated and unnecessary technique. If you search the wiki for recrystallization, you will get an easy purification technique that just involves some solvent.

The carbonate wash is like an ammonia wash, just 1000x efficient... how does that not interest you and instead you go for smelly-ass inefficient ammonia wash?

Depending however on expertise and experience, you can get very clean products just by naphtha alone and recrystallising. Just remember the GIGO principle (Garbage In, Garbage Out).

Yes, forget the ammonia wash.
However, ammonia doesn't leave behind any residue, so there is no worry as far as smoking ammonia.
I go for the best of both worlds and use the carbonate wash technique but substitute ammonia for the carbonate.

SWIM performed 3 extractions using STB and freeze percip. All pulls were combined and never performed a wash. Spice was perfect in SWIMs opinion. Good luck!
