Swim Had a couple of questions regarding a STB extraction:

1.What are emulsions and if one occurs how would one deal with it?

2. Would one be able to use a needle to extract layer of naptha instead of a pipette

3. Could one use a ceramic dish instead of a glass dish to pour the naptha

Peace

1.) emulsions are when the solvent get mixed up with the basic "soup" and does not easily seperate
2.) yes as long as the needle is HDPE. I don't think most are and sucking the solvent often degrades the rubber piece in the syringe and may contaminate your solvent. a HDPE or glass tool is what you want
3.) ceramic is fine

Thanks Very much for the help! Do you know how one would overcome an emulsion?

in some cases more lye or more water, I've read about people using salt as well. the best practice is to use proper technique to prevent the emulsion in the first place

^^ What he said. You can also use a centrifuge but not many people have those. Manual ones are actually quite cheap and work decently for under 50$. Vibrating the mix a certain way supposedly seperates emulsions too.

The best method is simply not forming a strong emulsion in the first place. Emulsions are a mix of your liquids and air, so if you dont agitate too much air into your solution you wont get much emulsion and emulsions you do get will seperate pretty quickly.

This can be done by swirling the mix or gently turning end over end many times. ANYTHING but violently shaking the hel out of it that will give you bad emulsions lol.

Thanks guys, surprisingly swift responses!

Just one thing that wasn't mentioned.

Is there a way to speed up the drying process after freezing (Tek says 2 days),as the sun is shining soon and one wishes to bath in its glory with more than just two eyes.

Very happy

A fan can help, vacuum filtering helps too...

By the way, be sure to check the FAQ (link below banner, or in the wiki, click my signature), as it talks about the earlier questions such as emulsion and so on

Hey, I have heard that air can melt or damage the product. But then again others have said that it helps.

hmm Not sure what to do Confused

Prolonged exposure to air (months... years, I'm not sure) is bad for DMT, it degrades it. A fan blowing to help it dry won't do it any harm. It may melt if you are using something that produces hot air, like a hair dryer, but a normal fan blows cold air so won't melt it. Even if for some reason it did melt that's no big deal, it would just solidify again once the fan was removed.

Hey thanks for the input. I am still a little wary. Just checked the tek and it says specifically to not let ANY air hit the crystals, also to put a lid on top?

Mimosa not Acacia

Unless you have an airtight container you will always get air on your crystals.

You need to air to carry away the naptha anyway.

drying under vacuum is ideal but I guess you dont have a rotovap, so yeah as demented said, to remove naphtha you need air for the naphtha to evap.

Dont worry in a day or two dmt doesnt really degrade.. Some more tests will be done in the near future but it seems that the only real degradation product that forms after weeks or months exposed to air, is dmt n-oxide, which is yellower/oily, but this seems to be also equally psychoactive.
