Hi all. working on an extraction at the moment

anyways, i got some freeze precipitating in the freezer and DMT has fallen out but not all has stuck to the side walls. I can see as i swirl it that there are loose crystals in the solution, while some have stuck to the side walls others have not..

so what should i do about this? should i pour the solution into another container and re-freeze precipitate or maybe i should find a fine mesh filter to catch the DMT while pouring the solution out? wwyd?

When it happened to me I just let all the DMT settle at the bottom and used a pipette to remove the the bulk majority of the naphtha, I then just let the remaining ~10ml or so evaporate. You could also use a coffee filter but you want to be quick about it so the naphtha doesn't warm back up and redissolve the DMT causing losses in the filter.

Thanks. I was thinking about doing 3-4 pulls like this, leaving the DMT on the insides of the containers, then redissolve it with just a little bit of naphtha then put it all in a baking dish to evaporate. That way it b easier to scrape up. Would this b ok?

that would be fine, but take a little more time and the spice wont be as pure

if you can afford a buchner filter and filter paper, thats the way to go; frozen crystals immediately get separated and you can reuse the solvent

if you cant do this, then just let it evap, re-crystalize and THEN freeze (there should be so much product that you cant help but catch it with a coffee filter

I just dump them back in. you will get them back with the next pull for sure

coffee filters work well, my chemist always uses a glass jug to freeze precip, can usally poor off easily without any loss

The floaters will sink to the bottom. Just pour very slow until you think all of the naphtha is out. The floating stuff will not fall out if you are slow enough because it doesnt really float.
You dont need a coffee filter for it. What astrialspice said is true. You will be using the naphtha for the next pulls and will fall out the next time around. If you try to just pour the remainder solvent in a new dish and freeze, it will not drop anything, because it is no longer saturated with enough DMT.
I use a fine strainer and it does work well, but then there is like maybe 3 or 4 floater balls that fall out of the freeze container while pouring. That is very small, and it stays in the strainer but can be tapped out on a surface and smoked.
