have friends who use both heard glass can break when using lye what do you all think would be all around safer

Yes glass can break that is why you want to use thick glass and do it over something like a sink just in case. You can also use lab grade borex. Use thick glass! You do not want to use HDPE2 because endlessness has shown that plasticizers can leach into the naptha and the DMT product which are carcinogenic and should be avoided.

Mixing lye and H2O is an exothermic reaction. Glass that is not borosilicate might not withstand heat. Mix slowly and allow to cool and there shouldn't be a problem. I think there are trade offs for using either.

im not trying to sound redundant but a mason jar is safe but i shouldnt store lye in it? can i still freeze evap in a mason jar if i use naptha? safely??

Lye will cause etching on your glass jar, but as far as i know, naphtha doesnt eat away at glass. X

I think it only breaks when a solution of lye and h20 is made, and under pressure, the jar breaks. I dont see a problem, if you dont let pressure build up. X
