I was told this had been discussed in a threat already but have had trouble finding it, so apologies for any redundancy.

Basically I am wondering for an approximate mL measure per 50, or 100 grams of MHRB. Since I'm new to extractions I an not comfortable in eyeing up my ingredients just yet.

please explain, are you asking of how much water to use? or are you asking the volume of 50 or 100 grams of mhrb

well first as you probably didn't need to be told. you should probably go get a scale you can pick one up at any home store in the kitchen section and in most smoke shops.

but lecture over, a mans got to do what a mans got to do.

by no means is this accurate but swim just took the dish he uses to weigh his Powdered MHRB (50 grams) put water in it to about where it fills and its about 75 liquid ml. swim wishes he could be more help maybe some one else can help more.

also check on making a balance google it. a newer US penny is 2.5 grams

If you are mixing chemicals in extractions, you NEED a scale! No ifs ands or buts!

The volume of MHRB isn't going to be consistent from batch to batch. Are you talking about shredded MHRB or powder? Even knowing that doesn't help you, because the density of powder is going to depend on how finely it's been ground. In short, there is no useful way for you to use volume to measure the quantities needed for an extraction, because there is no one volume that corresponds to a given mass of MHRB. If you do it this way, you'll have to work out of the density of the material you're working with every time you do an extraction. How were you going to measure the NaOH? Ask people for the volume of that, too? Honestly, trying to do it your way is going to take so much tome and effort that you'll wish you just bought a scale. Kitchen scales aren't expensive at all, you'll thank yourself.

Well it all turned out well with the simple use of a measuring cup. I appreciate all your insight. You guys should be scale salesmen. Laughing

Anyway it was alot of back and forth during the acidification, alternatively adding vinegar and more root bark. Ended up doing a larger extraction than previously intended due to this, but the end result has been satisfactory, though I still did not end up with an accurate mass density of the powder since I lost count of mL's of vinegar. Maybe another time.
