Dangers, fire/explosion? Options

I've heard from an acquaintance that she knew someone who blew some shit up/started a fire while attempting to extract DMT. Someone just ordered some mimosa powder and is looking forward to extract it without harm. Haven't noticed any mention of fire/explosive risk in any of the teks. Does anyone know what would cause a fire/explosion and sure ways to avoid it?

Thanks

If you look a little bit harder I'm sure you will find some warnings about heating solvent with an open flame element like a gas stove. This will blow you up.. As will using solvents in an improperly vented room if a freak spark happened. Could be static, or could be from switching a light switch on or off. It is very easy to blow up your house and yourself if you do not read the whole list of instructions and directions in what ever tek you are using. Some are a little more risky to do than others but with proper care and attention you should be able to stay safe and have a wonderful rewarding extraction.

Happy travels..

Yes, very true especially if you are evapping huge amounts of solvents in closed rooms. Try to make smaller pulls and evap only with windows open. It is also a good safety precaution to cut the power supply to the evap area, so you won'T operate any electrical devices in there. Let me state again, that open flame heating is a big nono. If you want to heat, use a warm water bath.

A safer alternative would be to use a tek using d-limonene like BLAB (check the wiki). It is also nicer to work with limo than petrochems.
You'd have to convert the resultant product to freebase though, if you wanted to smoke it.

Thanks alot for your replies. While I haven't read much on this board fire/explosions, after reading more for my own peace of mind I think the eco teks are the way to go for me.

recently learned a wonderful way to deal with this issue... if you heat a pot of boiling water (with lots of salt to increase the boiling temp just in case...), you can then move this pot of boiling water away from any "heat source", and use the hot water to dissolve any "solvents" etc... placing small amounts of spice / solvent in a shot glass & holding the glass in the "boiled" water until the shotglass in question achieves the desired temp / re-dissolves in the solvent, it is easy to bypass many heat-related "disaster" type concerns. although it is still imperative to PAY ATTENTION & ALWAYS BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS, this way makes it much easier to deal with certain substances @ or around combustion temps...

don't know if this makes sense... made sense BEFORE the reply, but SWIM's been drinking tonight...

two main things you need for a fire are solvent vapor and heat
eliminate these two things and your safe
evaporation is very dangerous to the liver so dont do it
as far as heat goes if you cant put your bare hand on it its dangerous

try a freeze to avoid all evaporation
and the heat - hot water bath is the best you can do - heating solvents beyond 140F(hot tap water) is asking for trouble

as a side note i can pull 1.1% - 1.6% every time and never have to use more than hot tap water and a freezer

yes, naptha is basicly lighter fluid when dealing with flammables generally a could idea to keep a few windows open. but besides that there is really no chemical reactions besides converting the dmt to freebase when has no potential to explode
if you can bassify in ammononia and extract with dcm why not smoke it?

No open flames and that includes lighting a bowl! Pay attention to your surroundings and you'll be safe.
