A standard STB tek using naptha on 1.5kg of mimosa bark was performed. The freezer used was not cold enough to fully freeze precipitate all the spice out. Approximately one gallon of naptha total was frozen and some crystals on the sides of the jars had precipitated out. Because of time constants, there was not time to find another freezer or move the naptha into smaller jars and refreeze. So most of the naptha was poured off and the remaining crystals were then dissolved in xylene (because the solubility is better than naptha and all containers were still at freezer temperature). This was a mistake because of the ridiculously slow time xylene takes to evaporate. Is it possible to add a specific quantity of hydrochloric acid to the xylene solution to salt out the spice, then just separate the layers and reconvert it to its base form? Time is no longer an issue but the smell of half a liter of evaporated xylene is.
