I was reducing down my FASW then it occurred to me i would only be adding more water to freebase with sodium carbonate, if i was just to add the saturated carbonate water to this FASW would the excess fumaric acid also drop out? Also i wondered if it would be far too acidic for the conversion to occur with a sensible amount of Na2CO3 water.

Just remembered i have a ph meter, i'll experiment with some fresh FASW and Na2CO3 water and see what happens.

Yes you can add straight away your sodium carb saturated solution, and no the excess fumaric acid would not precipitate, because fumaric acid + sodium carbonate = sodium fumarate, which is a water soluble salt. So only DMT freebase would precipitate. Though usually FASW results can be quite impure, and when you freebase that, the precipitates can also be more impure (like brownish). That would be fine to smoke, but if you want to clean up further, you can always redissolve it in warm FASW again, filter several times, and precipitate again with sodium carb solution.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the response.

I should have checked back sooner, been waiting a good while for the undissolved sodium carbonate to sink, but my experiment confirmed it though took hardly any to bring the ph above 10, i'll just make myself up another batch for the real deal.

Not too worried about the impurities, the brown gunk i got from my previous naphtha extraction vapourised nice enough.

Update:

If anyone wants to freebase DMT acetate in vinegar, from a quick test it looks like you will need to use as much as 4:1 of sodium carbonate water to vinegar. Not ideal, but seems a lot easier than boiling down vinegar to then freebase with sodium carbonate again if you're not going for the tincture method, might give you something that will crystalise as well.

Another Update:

After adding the saturated Na2CO3 water (had to add a fair amount due to acidity of the FASW) it turned milky and went opaque so there's obviously some good stuff in there, i also got a faint dmt smell that i didn't notice before)

Thanks for the update. Leave your converted fumarate water crystallizing for a couple of days at least, it takes a while for it all to crash out.

regarding the dmt acetate, are you sure doing the sodium carb is working? Did the dmt crystallize yet, did you filter/retrieve it? I ask because I already tried twice converting dmt acetate with sodium carb for this water crystallization and it did not work for me.. Some people were able to do it with lye, i havent tried that yet. For me I had to let it dry, make paste with sodium carb and bit of water and then pull with some alcohol or acetone.
