I am impatient as this is my first try at extraction. It has been 13 hours since i put the naptha in the freezer and can already see some crystals on the bottom. Is it alright for me to scrape out the crystals and then put the jar back in the freezer for the remaining time of the 24 hour period or should i just wait? Smile

Leave it still for another 11 hours. Wait patiently. You have a lifetime.

Yes, but technically could me taking it out early affect anything?

Your impatience will only interrupt a process you've already started.
All you have to do is wait.

every time you do anything you technically added a step to your extraction tec - more steps means that more things could go wrong keep things as simple as possible - no need to move solvents and scrape small crystals

its like a fine bottle of wime the longer you wait the sweeter it gets but once its open its finished

I would recommend keeping it there at least 48 hours, just to be sure you get most of it out.

HELP! Ok so i took out my jar out of the freezer and put it over a air duct so that the naptha could evaporate. Well went i went to look at it, it had all turned into liquid. I am so pissed off. What can i do?

Did you Poor out all excess naphtha out before putting over air duct.

And was this duct warm i dont know if you place the jar on top of it, you want a fan to blow over top of it, or in your case, put the jar at an angle so the nap can drip out, an have a fan on low blow inside.

Also if it melted there is a chance you could not have spice, but stick it in the freezer and try again, be patient, and don't be pissed just take a run through all the steps you took and see if there maybe was a mistake somewhere.

Check your ph levels and temperatures Good luck and once again be patient and take your time. Smile

Taken directly from the FAQ page at the top of the forum:

Quote:
This usually happens because of remaining solvent residues warming up and redissolving the crystals.

A trick to work around that is to freeze precipitate for a day or so (if you already have the melted crystals, then redissolve them in small amounts of warm naphtha and back into the freezer), and after crystals have precipitated, take it out of the freezer, pour the naphtha off (through coffee filter just in case any crystals are not stuck to the container), close the container and put it upside down in the freezer for some more hours. This way, any remaining naphtha trapped inside the crystals will drop off to the lid of the container on the bottom.

So after those few hours, take out out of the freezer, opening the lid still upside down so the naphtha drops off (remember to save the naphtha from freeze precip to reuse.... ), and then you can scrape the drier crystals, put them on top of a coffee filter or on a plate/petri dish to finish air drying, and voilá

The container used for precipitation is ideally something with a lid that closes well, like a mason jar, and that the edges and walls are straight so you can scrape it off more easily. Scrape as much as you can of the dmt, and whatever is left inside, leave it and reuse the container for the next precipitation, or if its the last precipitation of the extraction, you can use some alcohol (or even naphtha, if its clean evapping naphtha) to pick the last bits up and evaporate in a dish or easy to scrape flat-bottom wide container.
