How important is freezer temperature when doing freeze precipitation?
Normally freezer should work at -18C degrees, but mine works at -10 and cannot get higher.
I would like to ask does it affect the yield from extraction?
I poured off the naphtha which was clear after the crystals had precipitated out, but after I blew on it, it still got cloudy, that is, it was still saturated, but only slightly. I refreezed the naphtha and it precipitated something like 30-50mg out. Should I be concerned?
thanks

I think as long as your yield was not incredibly small you should be fine. Naphtha can also be reused, salted out with vinegar or evaporated to get anything left in there out if needed. It seems to me that a small amount of clouding whilst the naphtha is very cold is normal and on evapping to see if there is any spice left in it I have found the amounts to be so small that they are irrelevant (to me at least). Might be worth evapping some to put your mind at rest that you are not incurring significant loss.

Can you specify what is 'salting out with vinegar'?
I'm worried that I got only about 0.4% yield and I'm thinking it could be due to the freezer temperature. Has anyone any idea how does the freezer temperature affect the yield?

If you are worried about your yield you can evaporate the rest of your solvent and see whats in there

tele, Using vinegar to 'salt' out 'unwanted' alkaloids from your NP(non-polar) solvent.
The vinegar can't mix with naptha, and the chlorophyll, alks, jungles, etc, follow the vinegar when it's decanted or siphoned it out. That way the naptha stays cleaner if re-using it often...but for the record I love me some plant oils!
Although, that is messier than a re-x with heptane/bestine...and with a good re-x you can get awesome looking pieces of crystal.

So If I would pour 10ml into about 100ml of naphtha and then with baster/dropper siphon it out, would it work? But the question remains, what to do with the vinegar to get the DMT out of it? Quote:If you are worried about your yield you can evaporate the rest of your solvent and see whats in there Smile Would it work if I wouldn't freeze the naphtha at all and just let the naphtha evaporate totally for the crystals? How long would it take for 100ml? thanks

Yes, and dmt shouldn't be in the vinegar. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the idea is that the spirit molecule is light so it hovers in the naptha while 'unwanted' alkaloids, etc., are taken away with the vinegar. Yes, and not very long for 100ml assuming it has proper airflow. Er, 8-12 hrs...? Why not do this though; Cover collected np solvent/naptha and put in the freezer for 12 hours. Carefully pour out naptha into another container to evaporate. Over 24hrs you have both methods and I imagine a better yield.

I evaporated some naphtha to retrieve the remaining crystals, and I got only this yellowish goo on the bottom that hardened after it was scraped off, therefore should I be expecting crystals slowly to form or will it be this sort of goo that hardens after some time?

|
Most likely the goo won't harden...but a re-x could take care of that.

|
|
I say keep spreading and chopping the goo over a wide surface and sometimes the goo crystallises slightly, but it can take up to a week. It just makes it slightly more manageable.

So how one should work with the goo? Just scrape it off and redissolve it in acetone and then smoke it?
