SWIM was freebasing the alk's in step five of the tao of rue extraction and couldn't quite get the solution milky enough to call it done (i.e. ran out of sodium carbonate). would it be alright if SWIM let what few alk's precipitate out settle to the bottom and continue with them and set aside the rest of the solution until some lye (or more sodium carbonate) arrives and then continue? (perhaps a day or more later?)

Sound like it would be fine, aslong as its on a cool dark place. You just want to stop the chances of the solution reacting with anything/ causes it to react. I.e heat, light etc etc.

so swim got some sodium carbonate and has been adding it dissolved in water to the rue tea and hasn't been seeing the cloudiness one would expect. have the alkaloids already precipitated out and thus swim won't be able to see the cloudiness? or does anyone have an idea why the cloudiness isn't happening or does swim need WHOLE LOT more of sodium carbonate?
