I think that heptane is just supposed to be more selective to DMT and less selective to unwanted things like fats and stuff. People re-x fine with naptha just look at some of the threads search naptha crystals

Rojo Does re-x all the time with naphtha you should be fine

depends on the naphtha... ideally naphtha is just aliphatic hydrocarbons similar to heptane (pentane hexane heptane octane), and recrystallization will work exactly the same as vs heptane. But at times and in different parts of the world, some naphtha may contain aromatic hydrocarbons mixed in (such as xylene) which will screw up the re-x because it will dissolve too much impurities and not (or barely) work with freeze precipitation.

So just make sure your naphtha isnt aromatic and it should be fine either way

Is it alright to use naptha for the extraction and for the re-x? Would it actually clean the product up a bit even though it's the same solvent?

Ok. I'm going to make myself unpopular, and point out the elephant in the room. Why not use heptane for both the extraction and the re-x?

because heptane is usually more expensive to most people and also naphtha at times can pull a bit more dmt than heptane, which is very selective. If you use heptane, be sure to make many pulls, at least 6 or so, and the last ones make many cycles of mixing/letting stand before pulling, and freeze separately. While dmt is still crashing, keep pulling more
