Anyone have any experience with trying to pressure cook in order to reduce the cooking time? Swim has 100gms. of black on the stove right now......almost done with the first boil....swim will be doing tannin binding and trying vine only the first few times....will make a complete report soon.....

I believe the only real concern would be damaging the actives with higher heat. Cooking under pressure is much faster/hotter..... check the data on the alks you are going for.

If you give it a go please post good or bad results because this would be another way to get value out of your PC....

From what O have read so far the caapi can take alot of heat for a long time......When it is cooked over an open flame I imagine it gets alot hotter than a stove.....I will test this out eventually on low pressure when I have more rsources to play with...... I hypothesize 3x1hr or 4x would be sufficient, but I dan't have the necessary equip to make a test of the alk levels were I to do this......I could just say whether it works or not and compare it subjectivly to my other experiments........i'll let you all know how this first brew i am doing turns out soon........ Everything i say is a lieCool

I pressure cooked caapi recently.

2 x 120 minute cooks @ 15psi on half a kilo of caapi yielded a couple of grams of alkaloids.

It was a disappointing yield, but it's old sticks and I'm unaware of how good it was when I first got it also.
The nearest we ever come to knowing truth is when we are witness to paradox.

That's for freebase, right? In a brew you're dealing with harmine salts, they're already melted even at room temperature.

Was it shredded? Powdered? Whole wood pieces? What pH?

Your cooking times are on the short side. Yet the yield doesn't sound that bad. 50g dry is considered a good dose, half a kilo would be 10 servings. With 2 grams of alks, that would be 200mg per serving, which sounds about right, no?

Not salts, just harmine. Well, doesn’t matter as long as harmine stays harmine, correct? Smile

Caapi doesn't contain any freebase harmine, if that's what you're referring to by "just harmine".
