I found it up in the hills at the top of a long driveway. It looks like it was planted a long time ago and has grown unchecked and well. The climate here is mediterranean - it only freezes a handful of times a year at night. I am interested in knowing if this is a psychoactive cactus... if so I might take a tiny cutting and plant it in my backyard. What do yall think?

Doesn't look potent, too many ribs. But then again, cacti are hard to ID. Still worth taking a cutting for fun.

Looks a tad like terscheckii , but im no expert man.also could be a variation of cereus jamacaru , there is sooo much intra species variation man. but its worth google-ing terscheckii. but one sight says they look similar to trichocereus pasacana , and damn ,its right. good luck

I'd say its a trich all right, probably a spachianus aka golden torch. Who knows what its genes actually are. I'd guess there is a fair amount of hybridization in cultivated trichs.
It's wrong to take a cutting without permission if it belongs to someone else. If you are serious about getting a desirable cactus to grow you can order a cutting or even rooted plants online for less than 20 USD...

yeah man , i kind of stole a cactus cutting ,and announced it on here , got torn to pieces. but rightly so , they all had good points . so id recommend asking man. do the right thing etc, maybe theyl give you a large cutting if theyre nice and its not cared for.
