If you are using a razor blade to scrape your crystals you will find that it is difficult to clean the corners of petri dishes. A watch glass is what is used in laboratories, they are about the same price as petri's and can be found on ebay.

Who knows what Kirlian photography will reveal, i'm sure it will show some nice results, interesting idea! And I'm curious how you like the pipet-pipe, You will probably notice you have to take slower longer breathes, because the hole on the end of the pipet is pretty small, but other then that it works great.
