I've tried to do some searching but couldn't find the answer I was looking for.
Also sorry if there is a better place to post this.

My question is are there any studies or known science write ups on the actual process plants go through to create DMT? Not why it's present but how.

I'm curious because if the mechanism or process is known maybe we could play with said genes with crispr and CAS9. Or at least would be a interesting project.

some people are already doing that.

and you’re just searching the wrong terms. You should be looking up Tryptophan biosynthesis and metabolism in plants.

It's three enzymatic steps. More info here.

First the amino acid tryptophan is decarboxylated to tryptamine, which is then twice methylated.
