I haven't posted on these forums for a few years, I notice now I am limited to where I can post.

Anyway I am doing my first Extraction in Years, and also my first with Acacia.

I am somewhere in South East Asia and have been spending my free time lately checking out the local Acacia trees and there are many.

I have been checking my finds against the Acacia identification guide and most species I find are more or less saying that they probably have actives but were wrongly tested or something, anyway I don't intend on making any brews or anything with untested species so I'm doing the extraction and seeing if I get any fluffy powder at the end of it, and if so I'll cross the next bridge then to having it tested.

Anyway it's been a while so my methods may be a bit old fashioned, plus, apart from an attempt with some Chinese herb I can't remember the name of, I have only ever used Mimosa.

I'll run you through my extraction if you guys don't mind throwing some criticism my way.

About 300g of crushed and chopped Acacia bark, put in a smooth clay pot with about a litre of water and a crushed lemon.

I'm in the middle of giving this the first pull, I intend to do 3 of these, then combine the end product and reduce to about a half litre.

Now I'm sure I read somewhere that you have to do a defattening step with Acacia, I intend to give it one pull with solvent before basifying, (I used to do this with Mimosa before I found out there was no need too).

The only solvents I can find so far are zippo or Swan lighter fuel and acetone. (I intend to use Swan as I have used it before although I wouldn't say it's 100% clean.

I'll look in to cleaning the final product with Acetone if possible.

For basifying I have caustic soda.

So I hope to combine my final 1/2 litre brew after the de fatting step with about 70g of caustic soda then say 50ml of warm Swan fuel and roll on it's side a few times and maybe let sit for an hour or 2.

I intend to do a few of these pulls and then freeze precipitate each one then evaporate.

I hope I can harvest something at them end.

It's more of a step in to the unknown to actually find out what species are leaving crystals behind before I start homing my methods.
