I was looking for some advice on working with a separation funnel for separating naptha and the basified solution. When I'm mixing with a jar, I can shake it up and store it in a rice cooker on the "warm" setting which keeps it nice and warm without being too hot. After 4-5 mixes that way, I transfer to the separation funnel for the final mixture and separation. Here's where I'm a little confused, I'm not sure how to keep the solution warm or if that is even necessary at this point. Will some DMT fall out of the naptha layer if it drops to room temperature?
I usually let it sit in the separation funnel for at least an hour to make sure it's completely separated. By then the solution has usually cooled down to room temperature. I'm worried if I try to rush it and work quicker that I will end up with lye in the organic layer and that's obviously not good.
Thanks in advance
EDIT - I have one more dumb question that I can't seem to find an answer to. Suppose I was using a magnetic stirrer as opposed to shaking the jar, should I keep the lid on or off while stirring? It builds up pressure so I was assuming maybe to poke a hole as a vent or something.
