REF : DMT break down in high ph solution

I have read that DMT will break down after an extended period of time left in a high base solution.

so my question is : If a MHRB solution / mix at a ph of 13 is left for an extended period of time, how long will it take for the DMT to break down and be un-extractable?

Thanks in advance

Peace

what do you mean by "break down"? dissociation of the methyls, ring detachment?
neither of those are likely to happen. a more likely scenario is an oxyanion bound to the terminal amine, if anything... the n-oxide

Right.

I was reading some tek's on the wiki stating that dmt can break down after extended time in a high ph liquid, but as you have said it will probably just turn into dmt-n-oxide.

I was thinking of ring detachment or other bonds breaking, but you have cleared that up, thanks Smile
