When the hell did the Americans start spelling marijuana with an h instead of a j? This irritates me. I like the j. I saw this last week on drugs inc. On Nat geo

Both "marihuana" and "marijuana" are used in the original spanish, and there's several hypotheses about the origin of the word.

But "marihuana" has been used for long outside of the USA, it's not true that it's the US Americans who started spelling it like that. Actually, mexican sources relate the word "marijuana" to gringos, not the other way around.

yeah and pronounce SIll-Oh-SYE-BIN as SILLOS-ABIN? Jeez. Seems like folks that want to sound all 'educated' and pretentious do shtuff like that.
