Hey Nexus

So I have some friends who just recently started their first extraction using Noman's STB tek. They did the first two pulls and all went well but on the third pull whilst heating it the glass container broke spilling the basified mimosa solution/naptha into the pot of boiling water thus mixing the contents with the water. After a long cleanup they still had a sizable amount of mimosa solution with some naptha still on top. Obviously the water from the pot mixed with the basified mimosa water but I am wondering if a few more pulls can be done on this being that the naptha is is in a separate layer on top and not much water was added and the water was clean and boiled. Anyone have any ideas why it would or would not be worth it to continue with the last few pulls. I imagine some D will be lost being the solution was diluted and some of it lost but they are hoping to get some more out of it if possible. Thoughts?

The boiling water may have damaged the dmt when it mixed with the mhrb solution and naptha, though it might still be fine. One could just make the water decently basic and continue pulling with naptha, theres just a larger volume of water to work with now.

cool would you just recommend adding a bit more lye to basify? yeah i figured the hot water might do something but I suppose its worth a shot to see if it can be salvaged.

Yeah, add lye. Try to estimate the amount of additional water got mixed in and add NaOH accordingly.

I'd also like to say that from my experience, the heating is not really necessary. If you use enough lye you will rarely have an emulsion(if that was the reason heat was used). and if you do end up with a bubbly emulsion you can just have a sink filled half full with hot water and just sit the jar down in there for a little bit and it will settle.

They say that gentle heat will help push the dmt into the water. But IMO if you really want to add heat to the mixture you can just put the bark in the water/lye while it is still warm(not super hot though) and it will help push some of the dmt out of the bark and into the water. But to be honest i've had more problems from adding heat than i've had benefits.

Don't take this as gospel, but have your friend do a heated one and one without adding additional heat side by side and compare the results. If he does it, share the results!

Just a thought! I hate to hear about people having problems like this when they could have been avoided!

Very happy

Good luck!

Recommend you pick up some Pyrex if you will be doing heated pulls and the like.
