Dump everything through a strainer, use the funnel to separate the aqueous from the NP, add the aqueous back to the bark.

It's not that you can't, it's that it's messy. The aqueous sticks to the glass, not as bad with A/B, but the STB sludge can be thick to where you can't even see the separation. I agree though that basters and syringes are horrible for NP, but a proper glass pipette and 3-way bulb can pull it off the top no problem. After pipetting, it can then be put into a sep funnel or graduated cylinder to get a better separation. Another reason is because I don't like working with a high pH sticky sludge, moving it between containers, accidents happen. Once it's in the container it stays there until it goes down the drain.
