First Extraction Options

SWIM started his first extraction today, using Noman's tek.

SWIM used:

- 50g Brazilian mhrb
- 750ml water
- 50g lye
- 50ml Naphtha

SWIM honestly wasn't expecting any results, since it's SWIM's first try. But after only two hours in the freezer, this is what SWIM found:

SWIM is going to leave it in for at least another 12 hours or so, but SWIM isn't sure exactly what to do after that.

SWIM thinks he should just pour the naphtha off and then run a fan on the crystals at the bottom of the collection container, contrary to what Noman's tek says to do.

What should SWIM do?

SWIM was also considering doing a sodium carbonate wash. Thoughts on that?

Also, input from any gurus on how the crystals are looking would be appreciated.

Looks good (not a load of xtals yet) Just leave in the freezer for 18hrs (undisturbed)
Put a tin foil lid on it to stop water contamination (will form ice)
After the wait..take out and suck up the Solvent or pour out and reuse if you want.
Drain ALL the solvent off the xtals by leaving upside down for a while (10mins) Then blow a fan into the glass till all is dry and does not smell of solvent (10/20mins) (dont blow the xtals away).

Sodium wash not really necessary...if it looks too 'dirty/yellow goo' you can Re-x later.

There you go...enjoy!

There is a lid for it, it just wasn't shown in the picture, thanks for the advice on how to get those precious crystals.

P.S. Crystal Update:

Well there you go...awesome.

It will take anything from 12 to 18hrs to 'drop out' all the spice from the solvent.
Its tempting to keep taking it out looking at it...exciting I know...
But try not to slosh it around...the xtals need to adhere to the glass and grow...you dont want to knock them off their perches if you can help it...

Your doing well...

Looks like everything is going sweet Smile looks like you have some nice dmt there.

You could still do a sodium carbonate wash but you would need to redisolve your dmt in naptha first. It's better to do a wash before you freeze. An sc wash followed by a re-x should produce lovely fluffy shard like xtals.

I would definitely re-x your dmt though, some people skip washes and re-x's but i honestly think at least one of them is necessary for clean non harsh dmt.#

Happy travels! Smile

I have a question. SWIM accidentally got a minor amount of the dark sludge in with the clear naphtha, as you can see from the picture below. Should this be anything to worry or stress about?

Edit: it's that yellow looking stuff in the middle.

The lye/mix is not good to get in with the nap (consider it a 'poison'Pleased
micro drops held in suspension sometimes get in and tend to turn the xtals brown.
If it is a yellow goo..it is most likely plant fats/oils that are pulled into the nap along with the molecule.
This can be gotten rid of later with a Re-crystallization process (easy to do)

From your pic it looks OK

Just gather it together with all the snow globes and Re-X later when you have all your pulls done and dried.

If you 'know' that you got some in there and its the dark mix settling in small place you can
just pick out that area with your finger and not use it.

It is normal to get coloured spice with an STB Tek...Re-xing with clean it up and make it white.
Looking good though...a lot cleaner than my pulls..Very happy

I am 75% sure that I did get maybe one to two droplets of the lye/mix got into the naphtha while I was siphoning it out. However, it may be stuck in the naphtha and will just pour off when I'm finished with my freeze-precip. The crystals are looking very white and I don't think they're being affected by it.

I was wrong, it is definitely on the glass and not just floating around in the naphtha. What I don't understand is that the crystals a pure white, on top of that little layer of yellow on the bottom. Perhaps the lye/mix froze to the bottom before the crystals began to precipitate? Not sure

If its yellow is probably just oils/fats. (still a bit active)
Some people like the smoalk this 'Full Spectrum' spice.
Wouldn't worry too much.Thumbs up
