Initially successful extraction not proving so successful Options

A friend of mine who has successfully extracted DMT multiple times before started another extraction recently that I was helping with/observing, and he's now left it up to me to finish the extraction. I'm having some trouble, so I'll describe what he did (as far as I can remember) and exactly what I've done, and hopefully someone will know what went wrong and how I can fix it.

Friend started out with powdered MHRB in a jar and mixed in bestine, poured off the liquid and mixed in calcium hydroxide (I think I'm remembering the process correctly; in any case, these are definitely the chemicals he used). I'm not sure what he did next. Whichever tek he was using involved naphtha, but he used Coleman's camp stove fuel, seeing as naphtha is illegal in CA. We ended up with DMT in some form in a couple of different containers: a shot glass with DMT crystallized all over the inside, which I scraped up and collected (in case it helps, the DMT produced was powdery and white); a glass dish that had had liquid in it and evaporated out, leaving DMT behind; and a glass bowl with the stove fuel-DMT solution.

My friend put the bowl in my freezer so the DMT would precipitate out, and after leaving it in for a few days (I know it probably didn't need to be that long, but other stuff came up and my attention was diverted for a while) I took it out and poured the liquid into another jar with a coffee filter over it. The crystals that collected in the filter were also white and totaled about 30 mg, which was far less than the expected yield. Last night, I took the liquid from the jar, poured it back into the bowl, evaporated about half of the liquid, and stuck it back in the freezer. This morning, I could see that more DMT had precipitated out, so I poured off the stove fuel into the jar and was going to scrape up the crystals once the last bits of fuel evaporated, but lo and behold, the white lumps that I thought were DMT crystals soon turned into little blobs of a clear oily-looking liquid! Shocked

After seeing that the liquid wasn't going to sort itself out magically into nice crystals, I poured the fuel back into the bowl, which was now mostly dry (but without crystals in it), and stuck it back in the freezer. At this point, I don't know what to expect or if the rest is even salvageable.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do next? (It would be really nice to be able to harvest the rest of the DMT, as my friend said I could have some since I helped with the extraction - and this will be my first time trying DMT! Very happy )

Edit: A few hours after posting this, I took the bowl out of the freezer, and there were white lumps at the bottom again. When I picked one out of the bowl, it started to melt. I'm leaving the bowl in the freezer until I figure out what to do.

To me, it sounds like your product is redissolving into residual amounts of solvent after separating the solvent from the spice after freeze precipitation. If that's the case, put your spice-containing bowl in the freezer upside down with a lid on it after it's been in the freezer for a while and the solvent has been poured off. The residual solvent will drip down the sides of the bowl into the lid as opposed to redissolving all your spice into a liquid-y mess.

Good luck!

I'd evaporate the lot and see what comes out.
And tell your friend that he owes you half, not some, for dealing with a pain in the ass.

Thanks for the advice! I found out from my friend that he was using the Q21Q21 tek. I tried to let the rest evaporate, and there was still a little bit of residue, so we just poured in more solvent and added that to the next pull (my friend's helping me finish the extraction after all).

There was water mixed in originally; given DMT's solubility in water, we were thinking that maybe there was some water still in the container that hadn't evaporated and was causing the spice to dissolve. Alternately, maybe what I thought were crystals that were dissolving were actually just bits of ice that had formed in the freezer. In any case, we got a bunch out of the pull we did today, so it's not the end of the world if the weird bits from the freezer keep melting.
