A little oddity I'd be grateful to have explained away.
After a few recent food-safe A/B extractions pulled with d-limo and precipitated with FASI, fumarates were scraped from the mason jars the limo was salted in. Not ideal, but it works well enough. As it's nearly impossible to scape up every last bit of the goods, I used a splash of clean 99% isopropyl to dissolve what was left in the jars combined, and had it sit for a day or two, didn't think much of it.
When I came back to the jar containing the iso with dissolved fumarates, I noticed a very thin layer of fumaric acid on the bottom of the jar, very distinctly separated from the orange tinted iso. It was super easy to pour off the iso, the fumaric film stayed put. If this film consisted of any DMT, it was minimal, if at all. It was a very fine white powder with a tart taste and zero of the alkaloid bitterness.
Now, I know for certain there was excess fumaric acid while salting the pulls, but I'm curious as to why the DMT fumarate and the excess fumaric acid would separate so well in the clean iso. After letting the DMT laced iso evaporate, I'm left with roughly 200mg (haven't done any final weighing) of apparently very clean fumarates, that had at first the consistency of thick honey, but have seemed to dry up further to a waxy state. Any thoughts? Have I missed some key little tidbit?

IPA does not dissolve DMT fumarates, thats why its used for washing fumarates... Tt does partly dissolve fumaric acid. So I dont understand how you could supposedly use IPA to dissolve fumarates... Maybe it just dissolved fumaric acid and thats why you had a "separation" ?

Hrm, guess next time I'll have to snap a few pics and prove I haven't lost my mind. Quote:IPA does not dissolve DMT fumarates Care to point me to where that's documented, perhaps there's more I've missed.

I know it from my own experiments, dmt fumarates are very poorly soluble, if at all, in dry IPA at room temperature. Also thats why it works to recrystallize dmt fumarates with IPA, you have to get it hot to dissolve DMT.. and thats also why dissolving dmt freebase in IPA and adding FASI will make fumarates precipitate, if they were soluble in IPA they wouldnt precipitate. If your IPA had significant water content and/or if your 'room temperature' is high, it might somehow dissolve a bit.
