Is a crock pot okay? Options

I was using my bowl for my crockpot when i remember reading that heating up the solution with a solvent in it would increase the amount of goodies it can hold.

Would it be safe to put naphtha in and turn the crockpot on low for about 2 hours?

Thank you,
JC

No, not really. Even though a crockpot may seem safe and appear to have no exposed heating element, the appliance could still potentially spark and ignite your flammable solvent.

If you want to heat your basified mhrb/solvent mix, I would suggest heating up water in the crockpot (or elsewhere) and then putting the jar containing your extraction in the warm water in another pot/container (make sure you have a thick container, like a mason jar and be careful and make sure to warm the extraction vessel at a slow, even pace so as not to crack the jar).

It may take several rounds of heating/changing the water to achieve the desired temperature, but it is the safest and least risky way to achieve what you are trying to do, imo.

Like snozzelberry said. Aka double boiler. They use this method when heating delicate chocolate.

Edit:: just the method I am mentioning. The act of using one vessel with water and suspending another within and heating up slowly.

I'm pretty sure that double boilers are used over stoves (i.e. gas flame/electric heating element)...or at least, that's how I always use them. Please do not use anything that would involve an open flame/heating element to heat your solvent. We had one member set off a fireball that took off his eyebrows a while back when engaging in such activity Shocked

be safe, haapi extracting

question, how can you heat up your solvents without using a heating element? I assumed heating elements were relatively safe, and other than open flame (NONO) i didnt know of any other way. Maybe the flat pad style laboratory ones?

A hotplate or mantle (those 'scientific ones' Pleased) is rather different from an electric heating element (such as that found on a stove or crockpot). If you heat water (say, on the stove) and add it to a bowl or large container that has your extraction vessel in it, it is quite straightforward to heat your solvent without ever exposing it to a flame or heating element.
