SWIM has for the last few months been doing a lot of research on extracting mescaline from san pedro and peruvian torch cactus. Luckily there is an abundance of cactus at his disposal around where he lives so acquiring it is not a issue.

SWIM has tried boiling/simmering the cactus for 5 hours, straining and rolling the resin into little balls and ingesting them.
-had some effect but nothing close to the break through he is striving for.
-this method was tried 3 different times, using 20" of pedro, prepped and cut down into thumb size pieces before boiling.

Recently SWIM tried an alcohol extraction.
-250g of dried peruvian torch powder split into two bottles.
-added 450ml of 91% isopropyl alcohol to each bottle.
-let it sit for 48 hours; shaking periodically.
-extracted the top layer into a pyrex dish and evaporated it in food evaporator.
-added 150ml white vinegar plus 100ml water to the dish, added some heat to help dissolve.
-strained the liquid through a funnel and coffee filter into a smaller pyrex dish.
-evaporated the liquid then cleaned it using "RONSONOL" lighter fluid, then evaporated that.

The first pull SWIM ended up with brownish powdery crystals.
The second pull SWIM was only able to get resin out of it. (also the 2nd pull had set in the bottles for twice the length than the first)

SWIM tested this extraction earlier today with no success. 24g of the final product was split between 2 people.

SWIM read somewhere on the internet that during the dry seasons cactus builds up a lot of the alkaloids that are desirable, an in the wet seasons the cactus can use over 50% of those alkaloids up as a food source in their growth, leaving almost nothing to extract. SWIM harvested the peruvian torch during the wet season so maybe that has something to do with why SWIM is not able to reach success.

Any help would be very appreciated, SWIM is frustrated and does not want to start the next process until he figures out what he is doing wrong.
Thank you

how well do you know the material you're working with?

stressing cactus for at least 6 weeks prior to ingestion is key, i've never in my experience heard about people getting good results from a healthy, well mothered specimen.
cactus alkaloids are present as a deterrent to predation, in times of sparse rainfall % goes up so as to become a greater obstacle to other organisms taking advantage of their stored water content.

the pulp is what gets discarded. mesc. is only moderately soluble in water, but good results can be gained from an established specimin using ^ method, boiling it down to a managable amount, straining, throwing away the pulp, and consuming the liquid. you'll bring up everything that goes down, but if you've got good material that's all you should need to do

I am about 98% sure the material is what it is. Did a identification on the internet and it looked like what i had harvested.

what do you mean by "stressing the cactus for atleast 6 weeks prior to ingestion?"

The perfectionist is coming out here and wants to find a way to not only make it work but make it as fine and pure of a mescaline crystal as possible

using "swim" wont protect you from anything, and makes some of us just skim your posts...

lets see some pics of your stock

many "foraged" plants are very weak ime

i strongly dislike "stressing" and welcome anyone to show evidence that it is effective beyond just limiting growth--ie same amount of alkaloids, just in a much smaller and un-happy plant

if i thought there was really anything there,
i'd take all the solutions, add them to one pot, and go stb

i didnt take any pictures before i prepped it all and stuck it in the freezer. not real smart on my part..

ill try and go back to the place and get a picture of the cactus i harvested it from to show you.
in the freezer i have a bunch of the pre prepped cactus ready for dehydration but it would be damn near impossible to identify the type from that.

in dried powder form theres estimated around 400g to 500g. your saying i should turn it all into powder then go with a stb extraction? if i do that, theres two options in my stock to work with; calcium hydroxide (pickling lime) and sodium hydroxide (lye) which would be the better choice?

THANKS for the responses guys, much appreciated
