Hey all, I started my first extraction today and I really messed up. While I was heating my jar in the hot water bath, I accidentally let the jar touch the bottom of the pot before it had cooled enough. Anyways I heard a small crack and a few seconds later, as I was lifting the jar up, the bottom broke off and all my lye rootbark solution spilled out. Thank god I was wearing a lab coat, goggles and gloves. Most of it went in the pot. Now I don't know what to do. How should I best continue? I used 50 grams of rootbark and I don't want to dump it all. Could I pour it into a new jar and continue? It's sitting in a pot right now, I don't know what to do with it. Anything I say is completely false and should not be taken seriously.

Jars are a bad idea. HDPE #2 jugs are a slightly better one.

Thanks man. I do have a small empty jar and an empty gallon milk jug (I was saving containers). I guess I should pour in my solution into the milk jug and attempt to continue in my botched extraction? I had already soaked my root bark in the lye solution for 30 minutes, though it hadn't gone in the hot water bath. Do you think that most of the DMT has already been extracted into the lye solution? Since my jar exploded in the water bath, it's extremely diluted (I'd guess 1:4), so would I need to add additional lye solution? I am using Vovin's extraction method. I am scared of doing a hot water bath now... is it necessary to do one in order to extract the DMT? Anything I say is completely false and should not be taken seriously.

Well yes I suppose you can extract in the milk jug, and yes you may need to add more water and base. You need to do some serious filtering/recrystallization/graceful precision with this as to not get any glass in your product. It's hard to visualize exactly what you are dealing with so I Just wanted to warn you to please be careful, I am really not sure how much of a factor this is.
Heat allows the solvent to absorb more alkaloids. It isn't necessary, but it does speed up the process a bit.

Alright thanks a lot man. When the jar cracked, it looked like it didn't shatter, it looked like a very clean cut. The bottom literally came off the rest of the jar. Anyways I will take your advice and will do some major filtering and recrystallization after. Now that I have transferred the solution to a milk jug, I can estimate that from a starting solution of about 750ml, I now I have a solution of 2L, so close to a 1:3 dilution. How much lye do you think I should add? I originally had 50g of lye and 50g root bark. Anything I say is completely false and should not be taken seriously.

Add enough lye so that the solution turns jet black and the naptha separates almost instantaneously. I estimate it will take 75-100g more NaOH for this to occur.

I really appreciate the help man! I have the milk jug sitting with the lye solution now, and in maybe an hour or so I'll start adding naptha. I'll let you know how the botched extraction goes. Anything I say is completely false and should not be taken seriously.

I'm starting on my 4th naptha pull (over the course of two days). Unfortunately it looks like my yield is extremely low. I expected it to be low after spilling some of the solution when the jar broke, but not this low, considering that the majority of solution was still contained in the pot I was using to heat my jar. While I don't have a milligram scale, I am using a decigram scale and it's reading that I don't even have .1 grams from my 50 g MHRB extraction. I'm still doing naptha pulls and praying more will come out. Anything I say is completely false and should not be taken seriously.
