SWIM has decided to use an a/b tek I think. Would you suggest using muriatic acid or white vinegar? And if using a sodium carbonate cleanse, when is the best time for this? SWIM has read numerous teks indicating different times in the process to add the carbonate. Would it be directly added to the Naptha solution after it has separated from the NaOH mix or directly before recrystalization or what? Sorry if the answer to this is obvious, SWIM wants to have the best possible product. Thanks in advance

muratic and acetic work fine. Doesn't matter which one you use. you add a pinch of s. carbonate to 30ml of water and you VERY QUICKLY wash your solvent pulls with this after you pull the solvent from the base solution. The faster you do the separation the better, and you want to do it 3x.

Thanks for the info. Just to be absolutely sure of what you're saying, is this correct? 1. Pull solvent from base solution (leaving naphtha mix) and pour into sep funnel 2. Prepare the carbonate with 30mL of water and simply pour into the funnel quickly? 3. Separate the layers and repeat 2x
I'm sure the answer to this will be obvious too when SWIM gets there, but upon separation which layer is the naphtha which will need to be kept?
And now that I'm on the subject, when allowing the NaOH/naphtha solution to separate for a few hours after mixing, should SWIM pour the solution into the sep funnel and then allow it so sit, or have it separate in the mixing container like many TEKs suggest. It seems to me that separating the solution in the mixing container and then transferring to a sep funnel would only agitate the solution and require more time for separation again but maybe I'm crazy.
Thanks for the help!

1. The solvent is the naptha mix You leave behind the mimosa base...The napthas on the top, and if you don't get instant separation, you need to add more base.
