Aluminum pot used to boil, health concern? Options

Hi everyone,

SWIM has extracted DMT from MHRB using Mars's Tek once before, so is familiar with the process.

For the acidic vinegar boil, SWIM used an aluminum pot because it was all SWIM had at the time. SWIM didn't realize it was a problem at the time, but found out through searching through various forums that boiling an acidic solution in an aluminum pot can cause aluminum salts to form, in this case aluminum acetate.

SWIM is currently freeze precipitating the naphtha. What are the potential health concerns if an aluminum salt ends up in the final product? Will any aluminum salts be removed by either an ammonia wash or recrystallation, or is there another process one must do to remove the aluminum acetate?

It is possible SWIM is being overly cautious, but she just wanted to know if this is not a big deal/can be fixed (hopefully), or if the product has to be trashed and began again because it poses a health risk.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I read the thread you suggested, but it didn't really have a clear answer.

It did read, however, that no form of aluminum can dissolve in xylene. It is ok to assume that this is the same with naptha, because it is just another kind of solvent?

I have only limited chemistry knowledge, but it would make sense that any aluminum that did make its way into the solution via the acid boil would not end up in the final product as none of it would be pulled with the freebase dmt in the naptha.

Also, even if aluminum did end up in the end product, the melting point of dmt is far lower than the melting point of aluminum, so would I even have to worry about it anyways?

Anyone else have any input on this? As of right now, I'll probably keep the final product as it seems safe enough to the extent of my knowledge, but if anyone else has any information I'd be glad to hear it.
