SWIM has been having a really hard time deciding between two different extraction methods.

On one hand, naphtha is relatively easy to find and easy to use. SWIM is, however, unsure is his freezer is sufficiently cold to freeze precipitate and is worried about the smell permeating into the food.
Does freeze precipitating require the freezer to be super cold or will any sub-zero(F) temperature work? Also, does the naphtha smell tend to be diffuse into the freezer?


On the other hand, xylene pulls more jungle spicey bits out of the bark and using the acetate -> freebase method, would be incredibly easy to have full spectrum spice. SWIM does not know where to find pure xylene.
SWIM would like to know what brand of xylene would be suitable for extraction and where it could be purchased in the US. The same goes for lye and naphtha; SWIM would like to avoid online sources.

Naphtha is great. You shouldn't worry about the smell permeating in the freezer. It is believed that there has never been this problem from what I've read.

It is also believed that Lowes hardware store carries roebic brand 100% lye and vm&p naphtha.

I've also never read of anything about xylene because reading about naphtha has always worked so well, why read about something else?

Depends how well your container closes.. MAke a test, take out food from freezer, leave naphtha for a few mins, open again and see if you smell anything... if so, dont put it together with food.

SWIM uses glass canning containers and has had no problem with naphtha smell or diffusion in the freezer.

SWIM wanted to try xylene in order to make jimjam spice, but has decided to try this another time.

Does anyone use xylene on initial pulls?

You cant freeze precip xylene can you? Im doing my second set of extractions tonight, and I have both xylene and naphtha, but would rather use one or another. If I evap the xylene, it would be outdoors under two tight mesh screens to keep nature out.

Does xylene evaporate at a higher pace than naphtha? I never seem to be able to evaporate naphtha efficiently without a hairdryer, but ive never tried using a hair dryer on dmt containing naphtha.

If you get fumaric acid, for example here you can salt your xylene with FASA (probably FASI too?), or FASW, that way you dont have to evaporate your xylene.. Later you can convert your fumarates if you want to freebase. I would say better reuse/not evap xylene, its so damn nasty.

I have had great success salting xylene with vinegar. I had a great yield.

Oh yeah you can salt with vinegar too.. How do you freebase it after, frac?

I couldnt get dmt to crystalize out of based vinegar, but I didnt use lye, people say it works... Other option would be, if you dont care for crystals, do paste with sodium carb and pull with ipa/acetone, (or try the double boiler acetate conversion, but this didnt work for me!)

Xylene evaps very slowly. Best to use a fan. Swim uses a small computer fan that runs on 6 volts. He never tried salting though...need to learn that I guess.
